Andy Clarke recently joined the USG team as a Front End Developer in USdigital. We spoke with him to learn a little more about him:
Where do you live?
Bulkington, near Coventry.
What is your job title?
Front End Developer
Do you have any previous experience in this industry, if so, how many years and doing what?
I previously spent a year freelancing as a Front End Web Developer specialising in websites for small businesses and charities.
What made you want to take this route?
I’ve always enjoyed problem solving and building things. Ever since I was young, I had a keen interest in computers and how they work. I started playing around with PHP when I was a teenager and knowing that I could build pretty much anything I could think of was a great feeling. Keeping an eye on the industry over the last five years and seeing the amazing things some companies were doing made me want to do similar and expand my knowledge more.
What three things do you enjoy most about your job?
- Learning new things (technologies and workflows)
- Solving problems, whether something has broken due to an update or finding a way to make a solution to a business need
- Seeing different designs produced by our graphic designers
What do you like about USG?
I really like speaking to the different people here and learning more about their job role and how everything fits together so that we’re able to provide complete solutions to our customers’ needs.
Do you have any hobbies/what do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I’m a Scout Leader and have been involved in Scouting since I was six. I’m a climbing and abseiling instructor and an NSRA Youth Tutor and really enjoy helping others experience adventurous activities. I also enjoy working on my own personal projects and learning new technologies, frameworks and computer languages while doing so.
